Boiler Operator

The Boiler Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining boiler systems to ensure a continuous, safe, and efficient supply of steam and hot water for slaughterhouse and processing operations. The role ensures compliance with safety regulations, preventive maintenance schedules, and operational standards while minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment reliability.

Boiler Operations

  • Operate steam boilers and associated utility systems in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor boiler pressure, temperature, water levels, fuel consumption, and steam output.
  • Start up, shut down, and adjust boiler operations based on production requirements.
  • Maintain optimum boiler efficiency and energy utilization.

Monitoring & Inspection

  • Conduct routine inspections of boilers, pumps, valves, pipelines, burners, and pressure vessels.
  • Monitor gauges, meters, alarms, and control systems for abnormal conditions.
  • Identify leaks, unusual noises, pressure fluctuations, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Record operating parameters in daily logbooks.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and boiler blowdown procedures.
  • Monitor water treatment systems to prevent corrosion and scale formation.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team for scheduled servicing and repairs.
  • Report equipment defects and recommend corrective actions.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with boiler operating regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain pressure relief devices and safety controls in proper working condition.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance activities.
  • Respond promptly to emergency shutdowns and abnormal operating conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Technical/Vocational Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Utilities, or a related field.
  • Boiler Operator Certification or License (where required by local regulations).
  • Training in boiler safety, pressure systems, and water treatment is preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience operating industrial boilers in manufacturing, food processing, slaughterhouses, or similar industrial facilities.
  • Experience with steam generation, water treatment, and utility systems is preferred.
